Well said, Viktor! I have been under increasing stress as today approached. Wondering why am I so emotional? Why can I cry at the drop of a hat? It's because I feel like I'm walking barefoot on a path filled with pebbles & rocks, trying to keep my balance, trying not to fall over & get hurt. I voted by mail and - of course - for the Harris/Walz ticket & for Democrats straight down ballot. I cannot fathom what kind of nation we will be if that other vile, loathsome creature, barely a man anymore, gets enough electoral votes to go back into the Oval Office. Well, I do have friends who live in The Hague, also outside of Amsterdam, and in Quito, Ecuador... I may just have to move. πΊπ²πΊπ¦ Slava Ukraini ( my mother's mother and grandparents were from Kolomyja.)
I am not a real fan of democracy: the fact that Trump is still there is an indictment against that system. On the other hand, all alternatives to democratic purgatory are Hell.
It is the electoral college that the founding fathers of American government in the 18th century set up, specifically to avoid the election of individuals by the hoi polloi, the uneducated simple folk. Well look what we have today. Those same hoi polloi simple Folk voted enough in states with enough electoral votes to get the vile orange monstrosity back into the oval office. So the Electoral College is the villain in my book. Not necessarily the popular vote. I do find it hard to fathom, however, the fact that apparently - and I mean *apparently* because I can't put my head around it - Trump won the popular vote as well as the Electoral College votes... And that makes my head hurt. All I can tell myself is that in 2026 Democrats have got to flip the House of Representatives blue which will require the Senate to work with the House. And maybe some of those senators will actually grow a pair of you-know-whats and turn their back on the man they've been boot-licking for the last two or three years.
