A message from Ukraine: please protect your democracy today!
There's a plan to dismantle democracy from within, and today is the last chance to stop it.
TODAY I WILL NOT WRITE ABOUT UKRAINE as a Ukrainian. Instead, I'll write as a simple human being, regardless of my nationality. You can disregard that Iβm Ukrainian in the words that follow.
This is a message from someone deeply concerned with the unique crossroads this presidential election brings to America. Our biggest ally, our partner, our inspiration. A nation where so many wonderful people come from.
My friends from the United States, today youβre not merely choosing between candidates. You are making a clear choice between the preservation of the democratic system and an abyss that no one knows where it will lead.
In this election, one candidate, Kamala, despite any reservations one might have about her or her party, holds a democratic vision. The other candidate outright denies democracy.
A candidate who has repeatedly expressed he will not respect election results. A candidate who, four years ago, did exactly what heβs now saying heβll do againβhe tried to stage a coup.
Isnβt it a contradiction that he insists on being part of the elections? Isnβt it a contradiction that his party has chosen to maintain his candidacy?
But for them, there is no contradiction: itβs a calculated, well-thought-out plan.
Itβs a plan to dismantle democracy from within.
Donβt be misled into thinking democracy is an abstract concept. Democracy impacts every aspect of our livesβour security, our right to express ourselves, our ability to think freely, to be respected, to have protected rights, and to have equal opportunities regardless of origin, ethnicity, gender, or age.
You donβt have to agree with everything Biden has done, with Kamalaβs achievements, or with the policies of the Democratic Party over the last four years. There are imperfections; thereβs room for improvement. But what is the alternative?
You canβt vote for a racist without endorsing racism. It's not possible to vote for a homophobe without endorsing homophobia. There's no such thing as voting for a sexist without endorsing sexism. This is a moral boundary.
By crossing it, if you werenβt already, you become complicit.
Your vote today will be part of your lifeβs story. It will be part of your legacy for future generations.
This message here is unbiased. Itβs a serious moment, and we mustnβt be led by unchecked emotions or fiery rhetoric, or weβll fall into extremism.
Now you have a chance, my friends from America, and this one may be the last if the wrong choice is made. Itβs essential to put aside anger, vote rationally, and make a conscious choice!

Well said, Viktor! I have been under increasing stress as today approached. Wondering why am I so emotional? Why can I cry at the drop of a hat? It's because I feel like I'm walking barefoot on a path filled with pebbles & rocks, trying to keep my balance, trying not to fall over & get hurt. I voted by mail and - of course - for the Harris/Walz ticket & for Democrats straight down ballot. I cannot fathom what kind of nation we will be if that other vile, loathsome creature, barely a man anymore, gets enough electoral votes to go back into the Oval Office. Well, I do have friends who live in The Hague, also outside of Amsterdam, and in Quito, Ecuador... I may just have to move. πΊπ²πΊπ¦ Slava Ukraini ( my mother's mother and grandparents were from Kolomyja.)
I am not a real fan of democracy: the fact that Trump is still there is an indictment against that system. On the other hand, all alternatives to democratic purgatory are Hell.
