To my fellow Americans: if you are as disgusted by this tone-deaf message as I am, you can contact the State Department at this link https://register.state.gov/ and you can inform them that you do not appreciate them speaking for us in this way. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Also write Rubio a letter. A physical letter. I know this "administration" doesn't do anything it is supposed to do, but they ARE SUPPOSED TO open and log all physical mail that comes in. Send mail. Send lots of mail. To him, to Trump, to your representative and Congresspersons, to everyone you can think of with an office. Make them struggle to keep up with the incoming flux of paper. Make some good trouble.

Thank you. Don't they also have to register emails sent to them as well. I just sent an email to Rubio about this press release a few minutes ago. I hope it reaches him and, as you say, is properly registered in their files. So much of the time I send letters only to get a form letter reply. It makes me feel like it's the dead letter office at the other end. I'll send a physical letter for this too. Thank you.

Yes, well, you're talking about the people who didn't keep and/or deleted the required-by-law daily notes on what Donald did on Jan. 6. They illegally use Signal chats in an attempt to keep what they're doing somewhere citizens can't see it. I could list more, but you get the idea. I'm not saying don't send letters; even just seeing them, unopened before being tossed might help.

Linda Unger's avatar

I agree with you. Even if they don't open them, a mountain of letters that they know are taking them to task, is bound to be demoralizing when it happens every single day.

Is it possible to demoralize people who have no morals to begin with? ๐Ÿ˜‰

No, they don't. I sent an email to my Representative, and received in response a totally tone deaf form letter reply. When I replied to that, I received a message that "this mailbox is not being monitored".

I used to send physical letters to congress and state officials and regularly got form letters in response. I doubt very much if either format is actually seen by the official nor is whatever style of file holding our letters.

Expand full comment
Linda Unger's avatar

It's not whether or not the official sees it, I'd bet serious cash they don't. It's because if they do indeed have to have their staff log them in, it wastes their time and gums up the works. Overwhelm them with junk mail. Make good trouble.

How dare you congratulate the Russians on Russia Day? The same people who are nightly bombing Ukranian cities, targeting civilians. That's a crime against Humanity.

You do not speak for me. Shame on you. Have no conscience? How can you look at yourself in the mirror when you shave? The blood of thousands of innocents is on your hands. When you stand before God in the hereafter, how will you account for yourself?"

No, in no way โ€” NO way!! โ€” does that abhorrent, boot-licking statement represent me or any American I know. I have Ukrainian flags in my window boxes, and although I would normally put out my American flag for flag day, I will not this year. Unless I put it out draped in black, in mourning. I hung it for Memorial Day, in honor of veterans like my Dad, now deceased, but took it down immediately after, lest anyone think I support the current โ€œregimeโ€ in any way. Putin is not the Russian people, I know, as Trump is not the American people. But right now, the President I respect and honor, and deeply admire, is your own. The one who would never celebrate himself with a $45 million parade of arrogance and pompousness, but would use that money for his troops and his people. The one who stood up when his country needed him and puts his own life on the line, who didnโ€™t chicken out of service with daddyโ€™s help and โ€œbone spurs.โ€ The one who cares, who fights hard for all Ukrainians โ€” and indeed for the world. Who cares most about keeping his country alive and thriving. That is a man I deeply admire and respect. That is the kind of leader my father and mother would have cried to see truly LEADING, as do I. Thank you, Viktor, for your words, for your determination, for your humanity, and for giving us all a leader, a true leader, to admire in such times of moral bankruptcy. May God bless you and protect and bless Ukraine. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

I like to think that, no matter how he tries to spin it, Trump and his regime is NOT the U.S. flag, that the flag stands for much better things, more lasting things, than he and his. I'll be marching on June 14th with both U.S. and Ukrainian flags (and Canada, and whatever else I can fit on my extendable "sticks") to remind everyone who our true allies are! :)

Sigh...I had every intention of going out on the 14th, but I couldn't get within miles of my site! I suppose I could've walked there from where I live, but at my rate of movement, it'd probably have been over by the time I got there (I have photos of what I would've looked like, with my "gear")... X-P

From everything I've heard, there weren't anything more than a few arrests at the 1 square mile area of downtown L.A. as far as "incidents" went, and those were probably for breaking curfew. ;)

I hope yours went well! :D

Rubio does not represent all of us, nor even a majority. He got his job from a "president" who won 49% of the votes.....more people voted against him than for him but he got the most votes od any and won the no longer useful Electoral College.

Most of us deplore the filth that that president and his aids and advisors espouse.

We stand in solidarity with Ukraine.

Thank you, dear Viktor, for your writ8ing and your passion for your suffering people. I am NOT a supporter of Our Mad King (wannabe) Donald or any of his sycophants, including the amoral Rubio.

I made a sign: "NO King, NO dictators, NO Trump" today to carry to our local "No Kings" demonstration here in little Marietta, Ohio, good weather or foul next , June 14, while the idiot Trump leads his military march through Washington, DC. At 80yo, my protest days are few, but I must stand-up against this tyranny or be ashamed. With the strong weather front coming in, if there are thunderstorms involved, the ranking U.S. Army dude in charge of the event (can't think of his name at the moment) has stated categorically that the parade will NOT go on, since he wouldn't want to risk bystanders being hit by lightning.

And even if it's just a light sprinkle, pretty much guaranteed Don "Just don't get my 'hair' wet" Trump won't be there, either.

Dear Viktor, you said it yourself the governments voice IS NOT our voice. In 2 days people in America will be celebrating No Kings Day by gathering to quietly protest the

current authority. Quietly because we have been threatened with arrest for protests.

We still live by our first ammendment right to free speech but will use it by gathering non-violently in many groups, large and small across all 50 states to show that we will not be ruled by a wanna be king.

We are joined with you in fighting against authoritarianism each in our own way at the moment. But we still stand together against evil.

I pray that both our countries soon live in peace.
