Ukraine. To ensure we never fail again
Our suffering offers an once in a lifetime opportunity to reform our international system
We, as the international community as a whole, must admit we failed to recognize the complexity and the danger this terrorist state of Russia represented by escalating threat along the last years. Our state of things today is derived from the idea that a nuclear power cannot be extensively pressured to adhere to structured security standards because they have the very power to blow the world and so there would be no talking about βsimpleβ standards in an occasionally blown planet.
This blackmail possibility must be eliminated if we still want to have a viable Earth to live. The international community, in the bodies of the international organizations, must orchestrate sets or rules and conventions that are truly compelling and would guarantee clear penalties for those countries who adopt intimidation and menace as the foundation of their foreign policies.
These combinations of threats, and now Iβm expressing myself as a Ukrainian, must be vigorously eradicated. There's no bigger threat to everyone, anywhere, than a terrorist, revisionist and expansionist State with nuclear capabilities.
The international organizations, despite their noble intentions and their bodies composed by the most notable experts in diplomacy and peacebuilding, unfortunately, demonstrated weakness at several times. In politics, as well as in history, very often the weak are beaten. Recognizing our faults, collectively speaking, is critical to correct our path in the direction of victory, justice and security.
In regards to Ukraine, I can testify that bravery is deep rooted in our blood and "weakness" is a word that has not been heard in the Ukrainian territory for almost 13 months.
To sum up, from my layman point of view, we must create a better and effective system, with adequate enforcement institutions, to ensure we will never fail again in reacting to those who insist on violating territory and sovereignty of any nation on Earth.
And this is probably a lifetime opportunity. Please donβt wait for another Ukraine to reform our international institutions.
