"SOME OF YOU MAY REMEMBER UKRAINE. Just a few months ago, it was all the talk. Since then, war has broken out between Hamas and Israel, a potentially game-changing summit took place between the United States and China, and Elon Musk grabbed headlines again. Between the tragic and the absurd, we have somehow managed to routinize the conflict in Ukraine."
I've just stepped by these words today, from an article of someone I really admire in geopolitical studies, but it brought me a deeply uncomfortable sensation.
Please apologize if I'm being repetitive since I've certainly already written about it, but every Ukrainian today, especially who has at least a small voice and reach to the outside audience, has the responsibility of somehow avoiding our country and our people from being obsolete.
Much of our world today operates along the logic of the market, so news are treated as products and suffering is an asset designed to deliver value under the guise of sensationalism.
I'm here, as is the case of so many of my fellow compatriots who are doing a wonderful job, to remember the entire world every day and every single moment that Ukraine needs your maximum care.Β
Being aware of my insignificance, what else could I do?
This nation will keep needing all the attention while there's a giant monster called Russia ready to destroy an independent and sovereign State.
This State happens to be Ukraine. I happen to be Ukrainian. Our misfortune is being their neighbors, but don't take it for granted: Russia does not care. These almost two years showed enough evidence that your country, anywhere you are, could be under the same circumstances as Ukraine, and you my reader, God forbid, could be living the nightmare I'll never get used to live.
It's a fight for democracy and justice, so our fight is your fight. So that's why I ask everyone to never forget us. Because you are in the minds of every Ukrainian who risks a life in the front of battles.Β
The world is under an emergency and Russia won't stop, but we will stop Russia before.
However, we will need you firmly by our side.
Thank you very much.
Whatever else is going on in the world today, I for one regard the Russian aggression against Ukraine and Ukrainians as my foremost priority. Not a day goes by that it doesn't occupy my mind or heart. No competent leader of a free & democratic society should consider the Russian assault on its neighbour anything other than an assault on their own sovereignty & freedom, and a serious threat to global security.
