Don't let your support for Ukraine diminish
Media stimulates us to pick one conflict to follow while forgetting all the others
Nothing is easy for Ukrainians nowadays, anyway, it would be relatively easy for a Ukrainian to ask everyone in the world to stay caring about us. It's not even necessary to ask, Russians do their part enough to attract the indignation of the whole world, or at least the whole good part of the world.
At the same time we critically need attention, we also know that there are many other bad things happening around the world at this very moment. The dire circumstances in the Middle East, in particular the revival of deep tensions between Israel and Palestine, is the most notable example now, and certainly deserves a close watch from the international community.
As a Ukrainian, however, I come increasingly afraid that several simultaneous narratives about war, happening at the same time and with brutal intensity, happen to compete themselves and stimulate media outlets to select the "fresher" reports in the hopes of increasing the audience.
I know that our supporters, personally, will remain firmly not only with Ukraine, but with anyone who represents the side of justice, democracy and freedom. We Ukrainians don't have doubts that our allies support us because of our humanity, peace, and bravery, and will keep supporting us as much as any other people in need. Supporting several people at the same time if necessary.Β
But media outlets, broadcasting and also social media, work in the logic of the market. It is a consumer relation logic. They will conduct people to novelty, to what's impressive, what's fresh. They will do everything to funnel you towards Palestine, Israel, or wherever there is something worth of appeal.
My appeal for you is to be aware of this process that we are all part of somehow. Understanding how it works will prevent you from being blindly submitted to the narrative of choice of the market by only picking one or another conflict to follow while forgetting the others.
Your best interest will always be to build your own opinion about the real facts while being able to access information about anywhere without restrictions or manipulations.
Don't let your support for Ukraine diminish. Don't cease to have a careful look to everyone in the world who are under the tension of wars. Please keep your heart aware of cruelty, barbarity, inhumanity, anywhere in the world wherever and whenever it takes place.
Hi Victor. I promise we are not forgetting you. The blue and yellow heart stickers on my car and on my front door remind everyone on the road and everyone who comes to my place. on my drive to town there are several Ukrainian flags fluttering in the breeze.
You re right about what the news media - some worse than others - does in its consumer-driven-ness. Ukraine makes me think of an abused wife struggling to get away from a murderous husband. Ukraine is going to make it. I'm sure you really are. I'm sorry Putin's Russia is so deadly to get away from. You've made mountains of progress. Of course you are part of Europe - one of the best parts of Europe. From New Zealand - Kia kaha - stand tall.
