Blessed to have a life and to be alive
A spring to fight for our dreams and the reasons of our existence
AT THE TIME YOU ARE READING THIS PIECE, IT MAY STILL be April in your side of the world, but it's already the month of May in Ukraine. Every new month that starts is an opportunity to review our goals, to revisit our feelings, to renew our prayers, our expectations, or simply our hopes. And few months are so special when making these assessments as the month that is starting right now.
"Traven'" (травень), the correspondent for "May" in the Ukrainian language, comes from the word "трава," which means "grass." This is the period of the year when the grass grows intensely and the whole nation gets intense tones of green everywhere. In fact, green is not the only color of the season, as all kinds of flowers, not only sunflowers, also borrow every single color to our landscapes.
This is the month that better represents spring for us. The month when the grass grows, the flowers bloom, the cold finally leaves us, and nature presents itself at its most splendid. A celebration of life, in nature and in the hearts of the people that call this special piece of Earth home. Opinions may vary, but no one denies that this is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Ukraine.
Like in the two previous years, this May also starts demanding from Ukrainians to recall their resilience in addition to the feelings that are typically associated with spring. Celebrating life has an additional meaning since the war, as we have more reasons than feeling blessed by our lives.
Principally, we are blessed for being alive.
We are blessed for having the chance to fight not only for our nation but also for our lives, to remain alive and honor the spirit of our forefathers that fought so much for Ukraine. Every life has a reason to be, and our reason is our heritage of surviving. The Ukrainian dream survived for so many centuries and generations, and now it's our turn to honor it.
Because it's not only a dream, it's the reason for our existence. And no one would be able to celebrate their lives, their existences, if someone takes away the things that identify ourselves in our spirits, our souls, and our community.
Dreaming, fighting, hoping, we are starting this new month with all the strength of our hearts, together with our allies from all over the world, with the certainty that we have justice with us and the blooming spirit of May as a powerful boost to renew our resilience.
