A nightmare of seven hundred days
Each told story from a Ukrainian represents many others that will never be told
IN THE HEART OF THE ONGOING WAR, when the deafening sounds of the conflict echo through the trenches, the spirit of Ukraine perseveres after 700 days completed last week. In the shadow of enemy fire, there are a lot of untold stories from the heroes who will never be told, but are testified by the ashes of war.
LIfe is a daily struggle and a daily sacrifice in this land, but it is defined mostly by triumph, as Ukraine bravely repels the Russian aggression.
No matter how hard the war gets, Ukrainian defenders have stood strong against relentless attacks. Some accounts say we have neutralized more than half a million of Russian aggressive troops on Ukrainian soil. Thousands of tanks, armored vehicles, and trucks have been destroyed by these people who keep the defense active every day, making it an extremely expensive endeavor for our enemy.
A lot of questions arise about why resources aren't invested in the Russian economy, education, and medical care for example. The answer probably is because the Kremlin is indifferent to that. On the contrary, it thrives on war. It is a State forged on the idea of subjugating and extending power over everyone who they consider being on their so-called "sphere of influence."
From annexation of Crimea in 2014, Russian tactics have remained consistent—terror, more terror, and even more terror.
Zooming in on a single day of this January reveals the nightmare Ukrainians face. In a span of 24 hours, the enemy launched 48 missiles, 112 air strikes, and 73 multiple launch rocket attacks. Over 200 civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged or destroyed, making ot clear that the war imposes a serious toll not only on Ukrainian lives, but also on our resources.
Those Ukranians who fall are not only falling for Ukraine, but for the ideals of freedom worldwide. Freedom in Ukraine or anywhere else. After more than 700 days, we could extrapolate the sacrifice of repelling 53 attacks repelled in just one day, by multiplying it for 700, the resultant number I leave for your account, my reader.
As usual in crises, from the sacrifice, comes a stronger land and a stronger world. NATO is an alliance which is stronger than ever despite casual dissenters like the Hungarian president. Whole nations that didn't consider joining a military alliance, like Sweden and Finland, now are among the most active partners, either as a new full member or in an advanced stage of an effective association.
After seven hundred days, it's more than proved that Ukraine deserves a seat among NATO members. Ukraine as a full member of the alliance is an important contribution for the world's security by strengthening the European protection by its most vulnerable flank, where the West meets East, and where the virtuous values of civilization often meet personalities who are interested in boosting power through obsolete ideologies.
Thank you for your support to Ukraine. I really hope it won't be necessary to write something for the 800th day, but if it happens, we know you will remain by our side!
Please make our stories reach every single corner of the world, because these stories we tell also represent other thousands that will have the opportunity to be told.
